Garrett is literally a clone created on the Mothership as his Dad was Parliament-Funkadelic’s diaper clad guitarist and frontman Garry Shider. Garrett’s music is a direct reflection of the lessons learned from his funky father and the P-Funk crew. His style uses the same concepts of The One, lyrical expression, musical melodies with metaphorical and satirical humor made famous by P- Funk, but with Garrett’s own twist.
Starchildjr is currently performing with the current alignment of Parliament-Funkadelic taking over many of his Dad’s parts. He might as well have been performing since birth, earning his first writer’s credit at the age of 6 (Pumpin It Up from P-funk All Stars album Urban Dance Floor Guerillas), also appearing on The Red Hot Chili Peppers Freaky Styley at the age of 7. In addition, he has been honing his talents at DC’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts where he has had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Kenny Loggins, Ray Charles, and countless other artists.
