The Escape Artist, Brooklyn artist John Brodeur's third full-length as Bird Streets, is a paranoid guitar-pop record, rife with themes of isolation and existential dread. Produced by indie-pop hero Jason Falkner at his Los Angeles studio, The Escape Artist runs the musical gamut from claustrophobic folk to punk freakout, centered by Brodeur’s knack for unshakeable melodies and evocative storytelling.
Bird Streets’ classic-yet-modern indie-rock sound has garnered attention from NPR Music, Paste, and PopMatters, and landed him tours with the likes of Juliana Hatfield and Fountains of Wayne. Lagoon, his “luxurious and literate” second album, featured guest appearances from Aimee Mann and Ed Harcourt, plus members of Wilco, Big Star, and Superdrag.
