Your Band As A Business 101: An Entertainment Law Conversation

plus a showcase of up-and-coming Boise bands curated by Boise Rock School

Do you want to take the legal/financial/business part of your music more seriously, but you’re not sure what to do first, or next? Do you have a feeling like there are things you should be doing that you’re not? Do you have to personally pay taxes on all the money you collect for the band? Why can Miley Cyrus do a cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit at a concert without getting sued by Nirvana? How would Nirvana even sue now that it’s not a band anymore? If you included a pop-punk cover of Little Things by One Direction on your next album, would you have to pay One Direction or Ed Sheeran? A panel of attorneys and industry professionals will discuss actionable steps every musician or band should consider taking as they start or grow their music business. Bring your own questions, or just show up even if you don’t know what to ask.

CRUSH THE MONSTER

Crush The Monster

𝕮𝖗𝖚𝖘𝖍 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕸𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖗 is a band from Boise, Idaho. We are a close group of friends that likes to explore new depths of our musicianship and what it means to be a human. Currently we are working on recording our second album, which has been a really fun and rewarding process for all of us so far. That being said, we hope you have a great time listening to our music and that all is well in your mind, body, and soul. Much love – CTM

Mall Goth Moths

The Mall Goth Moths have emerged from the shadows as a group of musicians who shared an affinity for the eerie, the unexpected, and the downright spooky. This femme-fronted, glam-goth trio channels the haunting allure of the 70s gothic rock and the electric flair of the 80s hair metal scene, weaving both into a sound that is uniquely–and unapologetically–their own style of rock ‘n’ roll.

Their hobbies include applying eyeliner, following lamps, and summoning souls of the damned for game night.
