The angular, intricate, and intelligent compositions of Hospitality signal a sophisticated new pop voice. Singer Amber Papini’s idiosyncratic songwriting and incisive lyrics coupled with the band’s rich arrangements on its self-titled debut explore youth, New York, and the bittersweet commingling of past and present in a way that feels just right, right now.
Papini’s singing has a wisp of an English accent via Kansas City (she learned to sing by imitating Richard Butler on The Psychedelic Furs’ Talk Talk Talk), and her lyrics create a moonstruck, even cinematic vision of New York City, where the band formed in 2007. The production by Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells) and band member Nathan Michel imbues the entire record with an intimate yet prodigious sound, layering period keyboards with horns, synthesizers, and treated guitars.
“Former keyboardist for Brooklyn based Here We Go Magic, Teeny Lieberson teams up with two of her sisters and two of her favorite gal pals to create TEEN. An array of floaty textures and chanty vocal harmonies combine with a set of elctronic inspired tribal percussion, to create a synth driven psychadelic soudscape written with pop sensibility.”~Aaron Johnson, joonbug.com
Bay Area’s indie darling Ash Reiter brings you pop tunes that bring to mind a modern Fleetwood Mac rift with soaring vocal harmonies, catchy guitar lines and a rhythm section that wil make you wanna jump. There’s alot of fun news for the band these days, they recently released their supercharged EP “Heatwave” and have already quickly followed it with their second full length album- “Hola” due for release early this fall. Ash Reiter has had the priveledge of preforming along with MGMT at Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party Festival, playing San Franciscos Noise Pop Festival and sharing bills with some awesome acts including Dirty Projectors, Sharon Van Etten, The Head and The Heart, The Lumineers and The Blank Tapes. From their home recording studio in the idyllic Berkeley hills the band captures an undeniably California sound -sunny, dreamy and naturally blonde.
